The first benefit you should be aware of is the awesome sense of personal freedom you will experience! Let's face it, when you're in the grips of a smoking addiction you are basically a slave to it. You live your daily existence around your desire to smoke. If and when you do quit you will feel like you have regained control of your life.

.1. I could taste again the first Indian meal I had after quitting smoking was amazing. My taste buds exploded and my mouth burned but boy was I amazed at what I had been missing. Everything I tasted didn't have that stale smoke taste that had been masking all of the wonderful things I had been missing out on.
2. Money, I decided to save all of the money that I would have spent on cigarettes in a tin. After a week I had over 25 pounds. I was amazed at how much I had been wasting. After three weeks I had enough money to put a deposit down to go to Disney world which I have always wanted to do. Saving this amount of money every week will give me loads of spending money for my dream holiday.
3. Exercise, for the first time in years I could run for over 10 minutes on the treadmill without getting out of breath. I go to the gym a lot and not only did I notice a difference with my breathing but I had bursts of energy that meant I could work out for over an hour longer than I could have managed before. I found it easier to wake up in the morning with much more energy.
4. Smell, I began to notice just how bad I must have smelled. People I stood in a lift with after they had been smoking smelt foul and I realised that had I not quit smoking I would be one of those foul smelling people.
5. My appearance to others, I decided to have my teeth whitened and they have stayed sparkling white and my eyes seem to look brighter.
So there are my favorite 5 benefits of quitting smoking from my own experience. Obviously along with all these brilliant benefits came several obstacles. When I set a date to quit I had not banked on missing the social side to smoking. I did not realise just how much I relied on smoking in other aspects of my life. I needed support from my family and friends and I searched everywhere for other support available.
